About Pine Island

Pine Island and the surrounding areas are recovering from hurrican Ian.

We are working to rebuild to our picture perfect Islands!

Pine Island consists of Matlacha, Bokeelia, Pineland & St. James City.
 

Matlacha still reflects

the charm of days gone by with bait shops, seafood signs, and shrimp boats being common

sights in town. The pace is relaxed and unhurried, and the setting is timeless.

Walk the main street to take in the many art galleries and restaurants, or bring

your fishing pole and dangle it off the "best fishing bridge in the world."

Bokeelia, located on the north tip of the Pine Island
looks over the huge bay of Charlotte Harbor and to Boca Grande Pass.

It is home to four marinas, several great eating spots, and some the the greatest fishing

piers for snook.

It was the pioneer settlers who made the Pine Island MANGOS famous.
Today there are many tropical fruit farms and palm farms throughout the area.
And, of course Boca Grande Pass... the most famous tarpon fishing spot in the world,

is just minutes away by boat.

St. James City is on the southern tip of Pine Island, facing San Carlos Bay and Sanibel Island,

with many canal outlets to the Pine Island Sound and Matlacha Pass giving boaters excellent

access to the outer islands, super fishing grounds and the Gulf of Mexico. Ding Darling Wildlife

Sanctuary is just across the sound.

There are more restaurants from which to choose in a small two mile area which hosts live

music entertainment all week ... you'll never be bored!

Pineland is a small cozy community of cottages built on ceremonial Calusa Indian mounds,

facing out to Pine Island Sound on the west coast of Pine Island. In the distance lies

Useppa and Upper Captiva Islands and the Gulf of Mexico.

Pineland Marina is the gateway to the Outer Islands with water taxi service running regularly.
